A successful API call (HTTP 200) does not mean the payment succeeded — the transaction can still be refused or cancelled by the card issuer. When that happens, data.code carries a failure code and reason explains why. Codes prefixed SM_ map to the authorisation response returned by the issuer or card scheme, known as the raw acquirer response. See SeerBit status codes for the full list, and verify a payment for how to read a result before fulfilling an order.

Mastercard and Visa Raw responses

These are the most common raw responses from Visa and Mastercard for refused or cancelled transactions. The response code is returned with or without a leading zero.
